Philip Webley designed, .40 caliber, 5-shot percussion revolver in very good condition. The lock is an invention of Birmingham gunsmith John Bentley, hence the name Webley – Bentley. The gun is double-action only, and has a unique safety on top of the hammer to prevent it from striking the primer if it were dropped. The safety disengages automatically as soon as the hammer is lifted. The gun is nicely engraved on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and butt cap. It has very fine, checkered walnut grips without cracks or missing chips. The action is strong, the cylinder indexes correctly and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is a bit of erosion in the bore, as would be expected of a gun of this age. The metal is a smooth grey patina, and the nipples show no sign of corrosion. NSN, Birmingham proof marks. Rated very good to fine overall. DISCLAIMER: All my guns are sold as antiques and I do not make any representation as to the shooting safety of any of them.
