The National Arms Co. of Brooklyn, NY was only in business for a short while. Formerly the Moore’s Patent Firearms Co., National was in turn bought by Colt in 1870. During the five years they were in business, National continued to manufacture Moore’s large-caliber, single shot deringers and the “teat fire” revolvers which Moore’s was well known for. The deringers were also made by Colt after the 1870 take-over.
This specimen is in very fine condition, with about 30% original blue on the barrel and hammer, finely engraved frame, and excellent rosewood grips. The action is crisp and accurate. The bore is a bit bumpy, but good for its age. SN 12018, rated very fine overall.
