Description

J. M. Marlin of Newhaven, CT is best known for his excellent lever action rifles however his early days in the 1860's were spent making small, single-shot deringers. When the Rollin White patent expired, Marlin, like most other American gun makers, began turning out revolvers as well. His designs are very similar to the Smith and Wesson tip-up revolvers. The notable ones are the XX and XXX Standard, the No. 32 Standard and the No. 38 Standard, all featuring the hinged, tip-up frame. This particular specimen is the No. 32. It has been chrome plated and the hammer and trigger have been blued. It is in excellent condition as refinished, with all of the chrome intact. There is a small amount of pitting evident under the plate. The action is smooth and accurate, lock-up is excellent, and the bore is very good, with strong rifling and very minor bumps and ripples. The hinge is solid, with very little side-to-side movement. The rosewood grips are excellent, without damage and most of the varnish intact. 3 inch barrel, SN 8395, rated excellent as refinished.
