The 1837 model of the French naval pistol was produced at Chatellerault, Bayonne and Tulle Arsenals for service in the French Navy. This single-shot, .61 caliber percussion pistol is in very fine condition without any pitting or big scratches. The brass fittings are excellent and the markings are crisp. Marked “MRE RLE DE CHATELLERAULT” (Royal manufacture at Chatellerault) on the lock plate, with “Mle 1837” on top of the frame and the date of 1839 on the side of the barrel. Various crisp naval inspection marks including an anchor on the brass butt plate. Crisp, strong action, excellent undamaged nipple, minor handling marks on the wood stock, very fine belt hook.
