Colt 1911 made in Hartford Ct by Colt under Argentine contract. Known as Government Model Sistema Colt Modelo 1927 THE 1927 HARTFORD ARGENTINE ARMY MODEL
This is one of the 10,000 Hartford Colts made for Agentina prior to production of Sistemas they were delivered from 1927 to 1933, serial #1-10,000.” The production period was from July 28, 1927 to February 16, 1928. Serial numbers were stamped in Colt’s italic numbers on top of the slides, under the mainspring housing, and (usually) on top of the barrel. This one is.
This is not a “Ballister Molina”, this is a 1911. As one of the first 10,000 made for Argentina it was made in USA. Thus it is one of a population of only 10,000, and many of course have been lost since then. Hence its rarity. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line address/1897-1913 patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt and the right side is marked with the Argentine crest and “EJERCITO ARGENTINO. / COLT CAL. 45 MOD. 1927” and “6175”, and the right side of the frame is marked “6175”. The top rear of the slide is marked “No 6175” and the matching serial number is stamped on the top of the barrel chamber. Checkered trigger, slide stop, thumb safety, magazine release and arched mainspring housing, lanyard loop on the frame heel, unmarked two tone magazine and fitted with correct wooden colt grips.
ORIGINAL FINISH. Some blue is worn away and the bore has very fine, intermittent pitting but rifling is good, ask for photos The magazine is stainied but not pitted and remains very good. The grips are excellent with a few minor dings and overall very crisp long grooves. All markings are highlighted in white and remain clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent. All parts I checked had the correct Argentine Inspector mark “RA”. A restored gun, very similar, was sold in USA for $1995 US in year 2011. This gun would probably sell for considerably more. A better example #4771 sold on pre98com for $3250 USA. As a “Curio & Relic” I beleive it is exportable into USA.
